ICT PhD Council - October 2010 Meeting

1) Kista BBQ - October 13th, 2010
The council will be organizing a BBQ for all ICT PhD students on the 13th of October at the Forum building (room Kistan). More information available here.
2) Orientation Day in October
Baki will send a doodle link to the council to set a date for the orientation day. We will try to have it in the second half of October. All responsibilities for the organization are listed in last month's meeting minutes.

1) Orientation Day in October
We will decide on a date based on when the invited speakers are available. Magnus will contact the speakers. Olof will arrange finances. As soon as we have decided on the date we will book the room and Baki will send the invitation letter to the mailing list. Magnus and Stefano will update the documents from last year.
2) BBQ 2010
Preliminary date is September 30th, depending on the availability of the locale.

1) Promoting Doktorandsektionen events
Doktorandsektionen is organising a BBQ on the 11th of June at 18:00. For more information, see the Facebook event. Magnus will send an email to the ICT list about the event.
2) Improving organization of courses
Final internal deadline for "program" submissions is in September. We will wait until then to see how the new PhD programs will be organised.
3) ICT BBQ in July
Olof will send an update about financing later this week, we will decide on date, time and location after that.

1) Study Plans
Ex-DSV students that have moved to KTH can choose to stay with their old DSV study subjects (which determines the course credit requirements, among other things), or they can switch to one of the KTH subjects.
2) BBQ & Social Events
From now on, the ICT council will promote the events organized by the PhD student chapter (Doktorandsektionen). You can subscribe to the mailing list of the chapterby sending an e-mail to doktorander-request@dr.kth.se with the word "subscribe" in the message body. The new date for the ICT BBQ is July 2nd.

1) Communication: How to reach all ICT PhD students?
Baki will set up a Facebook group for the ICT PhD council. Magnus will send the introduction email with both the Facebook group link and the blog link to the doktorander mailing list. News about the upcoming BBQ plan will also be included. We will also consider sending the meeting minutes every month to the mailing list. Stefano will contact the admin in order to add the blog link to the THS website.
2) Improving organization of ICT PhD courses
Currently there are 4 study plans that apply to ICT PhDs. It is not clear which student should follow which plan because the areas overlap. Council members will check their study plans & Ladok for relevant information and report back.
3) E-voting
Baki will contact IT to find a sustainable solution for hosting the elections.
4) Other Issues
Olof will clarify funding issues for student activities organized by the council. Preliminary date for the BBQ is May 21st.

We will prioritize moving the blog to the ICT domain and discuss e-voting after the move is complete. Two alternatives exist: an external voting system or a solution in cooperation with the IT department.
2) Moving the blog to the KTH domain
Magnus & Baki will work on it and report next month.
